We’re excited to announce something new for renters! If you’re paying rent through Cozy, now you can report your payments to Experian RentBureau. So just by paying your rent, you can build your credit history.
We all know it’s important to have good credit. Your credit report helps lenders gauge how risky it is to loan money to you, which can affect whether or not you get approved for everything from mortgages to credit cards. In most cases, if you have good credit, you’ll pay lower interest rates, which will save you money in the long run.
In short, having good credit is an important part of your financial health—it could help you get your next rental or qualify for a mortgage.
But it can be difficult to start building credit, especially if you don’t have any credit history. Reporting your Cozy rent payments is an easy way to start building your credit history without taking on any additional debt. Also, it’s free!
Your Cozy payments will only appear on your Experian credit report. If you skip paying through Cozy for a month, your report will show “no activity” for that month. That means if you want to pay outside of Cozy for a month—that’s okay. It wouldn’t be treated as a late payment on your credit report.
If you’re already paying rent through Cozy, it’s easy to start reporting your rent to Experian RentBureau from the Rent Reporting tab in Your Settings.
If you choose to start reporting your rent, your past Cozy rent payments will appear as a tradeline on your report.
Even though you can share your rent payment history as part of your Cozy Renter Profile, your future landlords may also look at your credit history. That’s why reporting your rent through Cozy is such a valuable tool.
We take security seriously at Cozy, and we always protect your personal information by adhering to the highest industry standards.
